Automaton Adventures: Prototype Edition
A downloadable game for Windows
Automaton Adventures is an incremental progression RPG from Jump Back Studios. Players take the role of a new assistant at Madd Labbs, working as a field tester and maintenance specialist for the new automaton division.
How To Play
You and your automatons will automatically attack the enemy. Once enough enemies are defeated, you will attack the area boss. Defeat the boss to advance to a higher level area.
To increase the amount of damage done to enemies:
- click/tap on the robot icon in the action bar on the bottom of the screen to open the arsenal menu
- click/tap on the upgrade button on the right side of the arsenal display
- You can also unlock new automatons on this screen, after reaching certain milestone stages.
You can use time warp to reset some of your progression and gain currency needed to unlock/upgrade inventions, which provide passive bonuses.
Time warp resets your current area and your basic currency (wrenches). Your amount of gold wrenches, invention status, and arsenal levels/unlocks are NOT reset.
Time Warp currency reward amount is based on your current area.
You can exchange wrenches in the Madd Market, accessible from the top right corner shopping cart icon. Exchange amount is based on your highest lifetime area. Reach higher areas to get more when you exchange, even right after you time warp!
Exchanging 10 gold wrenches also gives a 10% bonus to basic wrenches received (compared to the other exchanges).

Project Roadmap
Automaton Adventures: Prototype Edition (AA:PE) is the offline single player prototype for Automaton Adventures.
The goal of AA:PE is to focus on implementing and refining the incremental progression mechanics and UI that will form the foundation of the full Automation Adventures experience.
Many of the online/multiplayer components of Automaton Adventures will not be included in this prototype, hence the decision to differentiate between the two versions. This means that features like user logins, cloud saves, leaderboards, events, achievements, social features like chat and friends/teams, pvp and others will not appear in this prototype.
In other words, basically any features that will utilize online mechanics are largely outside the scope of this prototype.
Current Status
Win64 only.
Mouse/tap controls only. Support for keyboard/gamepad controls will be added later.
The basic game progression loop is playable, although many critical components are not yet available.
All planned automatons are available in game and can be unlocked via area progression. There is no maximum level cap currently (this will change in the future).
No 'final' graphics have been implemented. All art in the game should be considered temporary and only for demonstrating functionality.
Currency (currently shown as wrenches, in normal and gold versions) can be gained by defeating enemies.
Normal wrenches can be spent on upgrading automatons (and your trusty multi-tool, of course). Wrenches can be converted from one type to the other, via the Madd Market exchange.
Time warping resets your stage progress, clears your normal currency and provides special currency (shown as a brain icon). That currency can be used to unlock and upgrade inventions, which provide passive bonuses.
Inventions can be purchased and upgraded. Many more of these will be added in future updates.
Known Issues
There are basically no instructions, errors or confirmation messages in the game at the moment. Things that logically should cause a message to appear (like trying to buy something without the required amount of currency, for example) will just succeed/fail silently with no indication of what happened or why.
